Local vs. Global Annotation Markers

There are two broad categories of annotation markers:

  • Local annotation markers are associated with a specific report or slide. By default, all annotation markers are local.
  • Global annotation markers are associated with a specific data model.

Local Annotation Markers

Local Annotation Markers Associated with Reports

Annotations markers which you enter for one particular report cannot be viewed in other reports or slides. There are four types of annotation markers which may be associated with a report.

  • Report Annotation Markers
  • Component Annotation Markers
  • Dimension Annotation Markers
  • Cell Annotation Markers
Local Annotation Markers Associated with Slides

Annotation markers which you enter for one particular slide cannot be viewed in other slides or reports. There are four types of annotation markers which may be associated with a slide.

  • Slide Annotation Markers
  • Component Annotation Markers
  • Dimension Annotation Markers
  • Cell Annotation Markers

Global Annotation Markers

Annotation markers which you associate with a specific data model are referred to as global. There are two types of global annotation markers.

  • Dimension Annotation Markers
  • Cell Annotation Markers

Each time you create an annotation marker for a particular dimension or cell, you can make that particular annotation marker global by unselecting the Report Specific Comment checkbox in the conversation dialog. The annotation marker will then be associated with that particular dimension or cell for that particular data model. The annotation marker will appear in any report or slide that is based on the data model, regardless of whether the report/slide was created before or after the creation of the global marker.

Deleting a global annotation marker from any report or slide will delete it from the data model and will also delete it from all reports and slides based on the data model.

Mixing Local and Global Annotations Markers

It is permissible to mix local and global annotation markers within the same report or slide.
